Hey, guys. Are you looking around this board feeling confused? Don't sweat it! This is a totally out of character thread where you can ask questions and find a straight up answer. Just reply to this thread with your question, and we'll add it to the list and answer it. If you don't feel comfortable asking a question publicly on the forum, send a PM to one of the admins and we'll answer you, then add the question and answer to the list.

General
1. Who do I contact with questions or concerns? / Who's running this board?
Currently, there are two administrators on the board. The Informant account is the main administrative account and is used by both of us. Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane are the individual administrators, and those accounts (Buffy and Faith) are currently the primary accounts they each check most often. Buffy also plays Connor Reilly, Daniel "Oz" Osbourne, Tara Maclay, Phoebe Halliwell, Sam Emerson, James "Sawyer" Ford, Sam Winchester, and Jax Teller. Faith also plays Piper Halliwell, Glory, and Star. If we take or drop characters or our primary accounts change, this answer will be updated as well as the graphics on the side table.
2. Who do I contact if I have questions about the graphics or coding on this board?
Faith handles most of our coding, so she's the one to contact with coding questions. Buffy has made most of the graphics seen in the side table and the banners and she made the site video, so she's the one to ask about graphics and clips.
3. What did I just stumble onto?
Where the Wild Things Are is a role-playing message board. It's multi-fandom, meaning there are characters from all different shows and movies. It is based in an alternate dimension using mainly settings from the shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and the movie The Lost Boys.
4. I understand that each city is set in its own time. Does this mean that there is absolutely no crossing of fandoms?
Each city is NOT set in its own time. For some fandoms we have a year listed for all of those characters to be coming from, but Glory's universe is set in the year 2010.
Crossing of fandoms is encouraged! That's one of the major elements we love about this board: that you can toss characters from different worlds into the same setting, where none of them are truly at home.
5. Can the characters never leave their respected areas? (I read that only California was really developed by Glory and the rest is a bit of a wasteland, but is it at all possible to leave?)
Characters can leave their 'home' city within California. Only certain characters have the ability to leave the dimension itself (currently the only one who can cross in and out of Glory's dimension is Whistler). Once we get a core group of characters settled we can see if other characters can also acquire this ability.
As far as traveling outside of California within Glory's dimension, right now we have it set that she's only developed California because that's the area that interests her the most. The rest of the world exists, but it's very barren and minimal and there wouldn't be things like electricity and running water. If you would like to add a new location to the universe outside of California, let us know.
Plot
1. What's the premise of this board?
The Hell-god Glory (a character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was resurrected by the rulers of her home dimension, only to turn her back on them and create her own dimension. This dimension is the setting for this RP.
Glory created her world in the style of the earthly realm because she enjoyed the commercialism and materialistic values humans in that realm placed so much emphasis on. She particularly liked California, and felt at home in Sunnydale, so that is where she set up her mansion. All other cities present in California are present in Glory's world and fully functioning. However, outside of California cities aren't so developed. They still exist, but they are effectively run-down ghost towns.
Upon completion of her world, Glory started plucking key people from other worlds that she decided she wanted as part of her entourage. The first was Connor Reilly (a character from Angel). However, in order to pull Connor from his universe to hers, Glory ripped a hole in the fabric of space and time, which caused a bit of a ripple. Oz (a character from Buffy) was accidentally pulled into Glory's universe as a side-effect of that ripple.
People are being sucked into this universe in different ways for different reasons, and all of them are trying to find a way home. But while they're here, they make friends and enemies, fall in love, and essentially learn to live here.
2. Do I have to play a character from Buffy, Angel, or The Lost Boys to be a part of major plots?
Nope. As long as you can find a way for your character to fit into a plot, go for it.
3. What's the deal with the thread trackers?
Because there are characters present from all different universes and times, we feel it's necessary to keep some sort of a timeline in place to keep things from getting too confusing. However, we don't want to put any constraints on our members by forcing them to conform to a set, board-wide timeline. Everyone posts at different speeds, and we don't want anyone to feel rushed or left behind. So, we're having each member keep track of the individual timelines of their characters by keeping logs of their threads. You don't have to know exactly when each thread takes place, but you do have to keep track of where it fits in relation to your other threads. Also, be sure to communicate with other players involved in threads with you so your timelines don't contradict one another. Your threads should make up a vague story arc for your character.
4. What's the deal with the Dimensional Bleed board?
The Dimensional Bleed board is where every character must post their first thread. If you look at the character application, you'll see we don't require an RP sample. Instead, once an Admin okay's your application, you have to start a thread in the Dimensional Bleed board. All threads that take place here are not yet in Glory's dimension. So, a post here would feature your character in their home dimension doing whatever it is they do. This post will act as your RP sample and the thread as a whole will bring your character into Glory's world so you don't have to just drop them in.
Your introductory post can take place anywhere in the world and your character can be doing whatever you want them to be doing. The administrators will read your post and if it's decent one of us will make a reply that transports your character to Glory's dimension. The thread will be locked, and your character application will be moved to the Residential Database.
If we're not sure if your first post is quite what it could be, we'll reply with a post that does not bring your character into Glory's realm, and you'll be able to reply with a second post. If after your third reply we don't feel your RP sample is satisfactory, your character will not be accepted. Feel free to submit an application for a different character.
When you apply for a character, you aren't fully approved until you complete a thread in the Dimensional Bleed board. While you're working on that thread, your application will remain in the New Files board, and if you're applying for a canon your canon will be reserved.
Once you complete a Dimensional Bleed thread and your character has been successfully moved to the new dimension, you can start posting on the rest of the board.
Characters
1. How many characters is a member allowed to have?
As many as you can keep up with! You have to create a separate account for each character and keep a thread tracker (either one for each, or one big tracker that clearly defines each of their timelines), but you can have as many characters as you want.
2. Is there a limit to how many canons each member can play?
Currently, there is not. You can take as many canons as you can keep up with, provided your RP sample for each is satisfactory. If you can't keep up with a canon and another member expresses interest in taking that canon, you will be contacted by an admin and the issue will be discussed privately with you. If we do put a limit on the number of canons each member is allowed to have, you will be informed.
3. Can we play different versions of canon characters already being played?
There are a few alternate canons listed in the Missing Persons listing, but you have to contact an admin if you want to play an alternate canon (whether they're on the list or not). Some players are more comfortable having alternate versions of their characters played than others, and some alternates work better than others in RP. The admins will discuss alternate canons on a case by case basis, and we will also discuss the matter with whoever plays the current version of the character in question. So, yes you can, but you have to go through the administrators before you apply.
4. There's not a lot of information out there on my canon character. What do I do about that?
If there isn't a lot of information available on your canon character, you can take creative license with it and make him or her your own. For things like history, just take what you know about the character - life and personality - and try to figure out how you think they would've become that way. If you'd like more information or advice on that, let us know.
