Personality
Describe:
David carries himself with an air of detached coolness. He can come off as kind of an ass. The truth is, he’s more than kind of an ass. He’s very much an ass. Sure, he’s charismatic and puts on his sheep’s clothing in public, but he’s got a playfully sadistic streak to him. He’s more than happy to abuse his powers for fun and to exploit others. He’ll manipulate people into following him, even if it’s just to lead them to their own destruction. He won’t take just anyone down, though. He likes to pick out the partiers, the wild teenagers, the bikers, anyone whose blood will give him a rush. Adults are all up for grabs, but are usually too boring to bother with. Of course, cops are always great. Young children are usually safe from him, but he has a thin line of tolerance for them. Usually if he acts nice to the kiddies, it’s just to get closer to their siblings and parents. Truthfully, any sign of kindness from him should only be seen as a superficial act.
Despite his crueler qualities, David has a strong bond with his “brothers.” He’s a selfish individual, but would go to great lengths and sacrifices for anyone he shared a cave with. His umbrella of compassion is small, however, and it takes a lot to for him to let you in under it. He’s picky about who he keeps around him. The offer to spend time around him may have its benefits, but it’s a path that can quickly darken and turn on you. He’s willing to let a person get by with a few mistakes and offenses against himself and his family. But once he’s had enough, there’s no appealing to him.
Likes:
- Partying
- His “family”
- Toying with people
- Anything that gives him an adrenaline rush
Dislikes:
- Anyone that messes with his “family”
- Being alone
- Overbearing authority figures
- Lousy music
“Fatal Flaw”: David’s need for his family is so strong that if he is left without any compatriots, he becomes more prone to losing control of himself. His emotions get the better of him, sending him into erratic highs and lows. He may become more violent and public with his actions, or, on the other end of the spectrum, stop feeding regularly. Both leave him exposed and weaker.
History
David Jr. was born in the summer of 1949. He was the only child of David Sr. - an advertising executive, and Lydia – a boutique manager. They weren’t the wealthiest family, but he made it into private school and had a good-sized trust fund. Most of his time at home was spent with his nanny. He started acting out, but his parents didn’t have time to deal with it. He usually just served his detentions for playing hooky and went on his way to mess around with the other rebellious youth.
He finally got in with the “bad crowd” when he was about twelve. It was the 1960s, so that basically meant they rode around late at night, drank, and smoked. He hopped around town with them while they had their little bits of havoc. They never did anything too bad. Sure, they lifted a few things from stores on occasion, but it was usually just some beer or cigarettes. When he was fifteen, David got into heavier things. Lilly joined up with the gang, and David couldn’t keep himself away from her. She took the crew in a new rock and roll direction with all the wild parties and illegal activities that came with the lifestyle. David went behind bars so often that his parents finally cut him off.
After a few years of the wild life, David got in over his head. He had finally become an outlaw, and had the cops breathing down his neck. It didn’t help that he had a tendency to ride around in “borrowed” vehicles and deliver special “packages” to less-than-reputable customers. Lilly left him for an older, more “mature” man. It turned out he only had friends when things went well. David was on the brink of having his world collapse when he was approached by a man named Max.
Being turned into a vampire was the greatest thing that ever happened to him. Max gave him a place to stay without fencing him in. He could do whatever he wanted, and had the power to escape any trouble he got into. People came and went through their life. David went through several girlfriends and just as many snacks. At one point, he realized he needed a more permanent bond. He got Max’s permission and turned a quiet guy he had met – Dwayne. Quiet was fine, so long as he had someone to hang around with for eternity. A few years later, they picked up Paul and took him in as one of their own. Not too long after, they took in Marko. The un-life was perfect. Just a bunch of brothers ravaging the city and its people.
And then she came along.
In 1987, the boys came across Star. She caught David’s eye like no girl had before. He was ready to make her one of the family, but things proved slower than they had been with the others. She was hesitant, even after he gave her a little kid to hang around with. He tried to have her warm up to the idea, but all attempts were shot to Hell when she introduced Michael to their lives. Once he entered the picture, everything began to change. David gave him a chance. He really did. Max even liked the guy’s family. But no. Michael couldn’t handle it. His little brother and his Frog friends ruined the life David knew. They slaughtered his family. They pissed him off.
David found himself impaled on a set of antlers after his brothers had been killed. Could antlers really kill a vampire?
